1. When are classes offered and what is the price? Classes meet for 75 minutes every week. Our program consists of 6 levels which last 6 weeks each. These multi-level classes are for beginner through intermediate level students. After the 6 levels are complete, students may continue with advanced classes. Group classes meet only on weekday evenings – some meet on Saturday mornings All classes are sold in 6-week blocks: $160 for 6 classes meeting once per week..
2. Where are your classes located? Our primary location is in Chicago Heights on Halsted Street in between Joe Orr and Volmer Roads. We have a satellite location in a Curves studio in Frankfort at approximately 208th and Lagrange Road, which is not run by the Curves facility. 3. How do I register for a class? You must call and register by phone at 815-341-6607. Full payment is due at the time of registration. No refunds or credits are given for cancellations once registered.
4. When do I need to register for the upcoming classes? We take class registrations at any time for future classes. Class space is limited so if you want to secure a class time, book it as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Most classes are filled two weeks in advance. Taking the intro to pole workshop does not necessarily guarantee your place on the upcoming schedule: we advise that you take advantage of our new student discount and sign up for your class at the same time you register for the intro workshop.
5. What payment methods do you accept? We accept all major credit cards, Paypal, personal checks received at least 7 days prior to the start of class and cash or money orders. We also take check by phone payments for your convenience!
6. What is the typical age of your students? Our students have ranged from 18-68. Typically our students are from 25-55 with the majority being in the 30-50 year old range. Students under the age of 18 cannot take this class, even with parental consent, due to the special considerations of growth and development which we are not prepared nor insured to handle.
7. Do I have to be strong to take pole dance classes? Lower level classes do not require a lot of strength. The majority of your ability will lie in your confidence and desire to do well. Pole dancing requires more agility, balance and motivation than strength. Strength comes with time and practice.
Advanced classes will require more upper body strength and conditioning as you move on to more complicated techniques.
8. Do I have to be in special shape to take a pole dancing class? Everyone is different. Some smaller framed dancers have a more difficult time than those who are not so petite. We have women of all builds take our classes. Remember, most of pole dancing is dependent on your attitude and determination.
9. What should I wear to class? We dress casual and comfortable. Typically shorts and a short sleeve top is best. You will need the bare skin of your arms and legs to assist in gripping the pole for spins. If you wish to wear longer pants, you should plan on yoga-style or even sweat pants, as long as they can be stretched and pulled well above your knees to allow you to grip the pole.
There are facilities to change clothes upon arrival at both of our locations.
10. Is there nudity involved in these classes? Absolutely not! In fact, nudity is not allowed.
11. What will I learn to do in a pole dance class? In the Introduction to Pole Dancing class you will learn about safety and body mechanics as related to pole dancing. You will also be introduced to several type of hip circles and learn your first pole dance routine which includes your first spin! As you continue in the basic and intermediate levels, you will learn different styles of walking, variations of hip circles, transitional/connecting pole moves as well as floor work and a large variety of spins. These moves are built into a pole dance routine, allowing you to learn the flow of dancing both on and off of the pole.
Most women of all builds can learn to do basic level routines. The intermediate dance routines require a bit more agility and strength but the majority of pole dancing is more about physics than power.
Climbing and sitting up on the pole is introduced during the intermediate level and you will not learn to flip/invert (upside down) on the pole until you reach the level 6. Each week that you return, you will learn a new move and build a full routine over the course of 6 weeks..
12. Do I need previous dance or pole dancing experience? Previous dance experience of any type is not required. The majority of our students who enter the basic level have never even tried pole dancing before or have only “played” on a pole at a bar or on a stop sign on the street!
We find that students with previous athletic, dance or even martial arts experience will progress more quickly at first as they are use to following instructions that require mind-body coordination, but eventually, most students will learn at the same speed.
13. Will I lose weight taking this class? Participating in any form of fitness training just once a week will not get you in better shape or make you lose weight. Only regular exercise and a healthy diet will do this.
However, the first step is most important and that is just to get started. This class will definitely motivate and inspire you to look and feel better in whatever way it takes.
If you choose to pole dance several times a week, pole dancing can burn in excess of 200 calories an hour if done continuously.
Note about aerobic exercise: Pole dance lessons are generally not considered a true aerobic workout, although it is possible to do pole dancing in an aerobic way. In aerobic exercise you are consistently maintaining an elevated heart rate for a specific amount of time – The American Heart Association recommends at least 30 minutes, 3 times per week. Unless you are moving continuously at a steady pace throughout a class, as you do in dancercise, Zumba, running, etc, you are not achieving an aerobic condition. You would need to already know HOW to pole dance in order to do this.
In a pole dance class where you are being instructed on how to spin, climb, invert, etc, you will not be moving at a constant rate while you start and stop for directions and corrections. You will increase your heart rate, you will tone and condition, you will get a workout…but it will not be a true aerobic class.
14. How many students are in a class? Our Frankfort location has 4 poles and our Chicago Height studio has 4 poles. No more two students share every pole so that there are 6 – 8 students per class.
Having your own pole at a class may sound like fun but it is not safe and can be exhausting and actually detract from the fun. While pole dancing is a great way to work out, we believe classes should be fun! You also learn more by watching your practice partner while they are on the pole.
15. What should I bring with me to class?
Bottled water is available for purchase at the Chicago Heights location or you should bring your own water. You will be expected to remove all hand and wrist jewelry prior to dancing on the pole so leave it home if you don’t wish to leave it in your purse or bag.
We also suggest you bring a hand towel that has NOT been treated with fabric softener for wiping your hands as they become sweaty during class.
The only other thing you should bring with you is a smile and be ready to have fun!

17. Do I need my own pole at home? No. You will find that at the basic level, you can come back each week with minimal practice done at home on your non-pole moves and have enough exposure to your dance routine that by the end of the basic level, you can competently perform the majority of the moves.
The intermediate level requires more practice and review as the moves become a bit more challenging. While it is not required to have a pole of your own for practice at home, you will enjoy your lessons and progress more quickly if you can practice between classes, but it is not required.
It is required to have your own pole at home to take advanced classes.
18. What can I do if I want a pole in my house but I have kids, etc? There are fully removable pole on the market that can be put up and taken down in less than 5 minutes! We sell the X-pole or can help you choose another pole that is right for you.
19. Can I try out a class before I register? Yes. Our Intro to Pole Dancing workshop is a one-time class with no obligation to return or sign up for other classes. However – plan on being hooked after that one class!
20. I have a medical condition – can I still take this class? This class is a form of fitness and exercise just like any other dance or exercise class and can cause physical stress, fatigue, and has the risk of injury. As with starting any new activity or exercise, please consult with your physician to determine if you have an pre-existing conditions which will be contraindicated for this class. Students with previous injuries or known health conditions are responsible for obtaining medical clearance prior to taking any of our classes.
All students and party guests are required to sign a waiver of liability that they have no contraindications to taking this class. Women who are pregnant cannot take this class.
21. Are men allowed to take this class? Our classes are gender specific – all male or all female. We do not allow classes to be mixed unless requested by a group. At this time, due to lack of demand, we do not offer group classes for men, but we can provide private instruction for any men wishing to learn to pole dance.
22. What is your make up policy if I have to miss a class? Students who call in advance have the option of rescheduling their class for another class within the same week IF room is available and other classes are not full.
23. Do you offer group exotic or lap dance classes? At this time we do not offer regular group classes in exotic dance or lap dancing. We can provide private instructions in either or we occasionally offer workshops in both.
24. Do you offer pole dance workshops? We offer FEM workshops: Flow, Expression and Movement. This is a 2-hour choreography workshop which stresses proper form, flow and seamless transitions as you move through your pole work. This is open only to students who have completed level 4 in our program or the equivalent in another program. If you have trained elsewhere – contact us for more information.
25. I’ve already taken pole dance classes elsewhere or have previous experience – do I need to start at level one? Our classes are taught based on proper body mechanics and specific safety considerations and may be quite different from what you have learned or experienced. If you wish to skip any level of class, you must be evaluated by taking a regular private lesson first for us to determine your level of expertise as well as to assure your safe dance practices.
26. Can I observe a class before I sign up? Unfortunately we cannot allow potential students to come in and observe our classes as our students would feel like they are “performing” with an audience standing around to watch. If you are unsure, you can sign up to take just our Introduction To Pole Dance workshop without any obligation to take more classes. However – we’re certain you’ll be back!
